Thank you very much for taking your time for this interview.
Visual Kei is very popular overseas, but interviews in English are quite rare. It’s especially hard to find interviews about new bands. We from Paradox Translation would like to change that with our interviews.

First of all we would like to ask what the band name MEME means and why you chose it.

MEME comes from the band logo rather than the band name. The meaning is ME+ME; a world for you and me. Read as meme (メメ) and not mīmu (ミーム) in Japanese.

Why did you choose Visual Kei as a genre?

I was wondering if I could become Mickey Mouse.

What does Visual Kei mean to you?

A beautifully twisted spirit.

At the moment MEME gives the impression of a solo artist. Do you want to be seen as a solo artist or a band?

As a spirit destroying singer and songwriter.

Your songs resemble the Visual Kei from 2000-2010. A sound that is quite rare nowadays. How would you describe your music style?

As an endangered species, chaos and darkness.

Where do you get your ideas for your music from?

From absurdity, my rebellious spirit and darkness.

Do you produce all your songs completely by yourself?

I produce everything myself, but for the drums and bass I consult with an engineer.

Also for the recording, the engineer plays the drums and bass.

Which bands particularly influenced you?

GLAY, Dir En Grey, Linkin Park, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, etc.

To get to know you as a person, it would be great if you could tell us 3 things that are dear to you.

Tabaco, the amount of sugar and dinosaurs.

Is there something you do in your free time, when you are not busy with music?

I’m smoking.

Which song do you like to perform live the most?

It’s changing from time to time, but currently it’s ONANIE (オナニー).

Which song would you recommend to our readers to get an impression of MEME?

YOKUJYŌ SHANGRI-LA (欲情シャングリラ).

Many bands have a specific goal, like performing at Budokan one day. Do you have a goal you are working towards?

I want to perform overseas.

To close this interview, kindly leave a message to our readers.

To everyone who is reading this interview, please let me do a concert overseas. I don’t have money. Also, thank you very much for finding MEME.
