Regardless of what they encompass, Tatsurou’s (MUCC) projects never fail to amaze his fans!
We had the pleasure of interviewing him for his new project: Tatsurou solo works.
Thank you very much for having an interview with us. Tatsurou, you‘ve achieved amazing success with MUCC and have started other projects with members from other bands in the past, too. Now, you’ve decided to also start a solo career. Could you please tell us about your motivations with MUCC as well as with your current solo project, and what you want to do next?
I think it is interesting to try and do what you really want to do without thinking about success or failure. I wanted to make a playground thanks to the existence of MUCC.
On February 2nd, you released two albums called HIKAGAKU HOUTEISHIKI (非科学方程式) and =EQUAL. HIKAGAKU HOUTEISHIKI (非科学方程式) also includes songs created by artists you’re close with. How did you feel about singing the songs that were written for you?
It was a wonderful experience. It felt like I formed 10 different bands with 10 different artists that I’m close to.
Were there any songs that were particularly surprising or difficult?
All of the songs were very fresh and exciting, but TATTOO in particular was surprising.
What is your favorite song on your new album?
Both albums were finished as one complete piece, so it’s hard to choose just one!
To the delight of your overseas fans, the titles of the songs are mostly in English, but the lyrics are mostly in Japanese. What are your thoughts on that?
For the self-album, I purposely made all the song titles in English. Since it’s something I’ve never done with MUCC. The content of the lyrics are mainly in Japanese, as usual. I believe I was able to write the lyrics more freely and personally than I did in MUCC.
Almost all of the concerts in your solo tour are SOLD OUT, aren’t they? Congratulations! What are your expectations for the concerts?
The world is in a difficult situation now but just standing still isn’t going to change anything, so I want to create a concert facing the future.
The lineup of your support members is also of great interest to us. Why did you choose these members?
I asked my close friends for help this time.
The lyrics of MR. COUNTDOWN and GOOD NIGHT include phrases like “Overcome the despair” (絶望を超えて行け) and “I’m sure it will be okay tomorrow” (明日になればきっと大丈夫). Especially these last few years, many people continue to fall into despair. How do you focus on the positive things in life?
It’s not something I’m particularly aware of. Time will pass, tomorrow will come regardless of whether you think negatively or positively, and it’s more fun to think positively. So the positivity just comes naturally for me.
You’ve performed overseas many times before, but what was the craziest thing that’s happened? Was there any country that’s left a strong impression on you?
The midnight sun in Scandinavia!
Finally, please say a few words for your overseas fans.
Someday I’m looking forward to seeing you as a solo artist as well! When that time comes, please support me!
