A new release, a new interview! However, we didn’t only ask about his new single, but also about differences between his solo work and MUCC. Don’t miss out on this interview!
Thank you so much for giving us another opportunity to talk to you about your solo activities. We already had the pleasure to discuss your solo activities with you in February this year. How are you feeling lately?
I am very busy with MUCC’s activities, my solo activities, and my private life, but it’s all very fulfilling!
The title of your first single is END ROLL. Even though it’s your first single, the title sounds like it’s your last. Could you please tell us a little about the meaning of the title?
It was inspired by the interlude part that emerged during the process of the song arrangement.
We got the impression that the lyrics of END ROLL depict the end of a love full of regrets, while the lyrics of RHAPSODIA depict a very passionate love. Moreover, there is a line in RHAPSODIA’s lyrics that goes “The tears of that day, the end roll disappeared”. This line makes these two songs seem connected. Could you tell us about the stories depicted in these two songs?
Originally, I wasn’t going to sing RHAPSODIA myself, but during the production process, I thought it would be interesting to do a self-cover and went along with that idea. So the stories aren’t connected, but I think it turned out to be an interesting combination.
MUCC has written many anime songs. Do you take a different approach when you’re writing songs for anime or for projects like the Boy Band than when you normally write songs?
When I’m making a song for a collaboration, I can’t ignore the other people’s requests or the story of the target media, so I try to get closer to them and figure it out.
The limited edition DVD includes a cover of MUCC’s SUPERHERO that you performed at the “First Acoustic Live”. Does it feel different to play this song as a solo project instead of with MUCC?
It’s a song that I created with Adachi, whom I originally worked with when creating songs, and there were quite a few changes between the first arrangement and the MUCC’s final version. I thought it would be interesting to try the song in a version that is closer to the original for this occasion. There is a first verse that is only available in the first arrangement so please listen to it.
Also, MUCC celebrated its 25th anniversary. Congratulations! Looking back on your career so far, what are you most proud of? Also, what has been the hardest thing for you?
That we have shared a long time with our fans, and have grown very well together. At the same time, it has been a struggle to keep going for so long.
You also had a talk show after/before the concert that took place on September 2nd. Talk shows are always special for fans, but how was it for you? Were there any questions from the fans that surprised you?
I was able to really relax and enjoy myself. I’ve always loved events like this, so I want to continue to do them proactively as a solo artist as well. I wasn’t surprised by the questions, but, just for fun, I sold some sea shells I picked up from the sea for 100 yen, and I was surprised that so many people actually wanted them (laughs).
We heard that you will be holding a photo exhibition/ solo exhibition called “Tatsurou-san Gallery” on September 10th and 11th, 2022. On-stage photos taken at concerts during your solo tour, backstage photos, paintings you drew for the album artwork, and the costumes you wore during the tour will be displayed. Why did you decide to hold such an exhibition? The exhibition will only be held for two days this time, but do you want to show your paintings to the world again in the same way some day?
We did something similar as MUCC, too, and it was very well received so I wanted to try doing it as a solo artist as well.
As an artist who not only works on music, but also paints, and writes lyrics, where do you get your inspiration from?
From everyday life, I think?
MUCC did an overseas tour a few years ago. Do you want to perform overseas someday as a solo artist as well? Also, aside from touring, are there any countries that you’ve never been to, and would like to visit one day?
If I get the opportunity, I want to perform abroad flexibly. Please support me when that time comes! If I could go anywhere regardless of touring, I would love to relax and travel through Europe.
You are from Mito City in Ibaraki Prefecture, are there any places or specialties you recommend?
The sea! You can catch a flounder!
To conclude this interview, please tell us a funny thing that happened during the tour!
I caught Covid on the day of Miya’s birthday concert! Everyone, please be careful!!
